Southend-on-sea, Essex —- As it has all season, the bench for County Upper basketball team provided a huge spark as CU finally put numbers in their win column. County Upper who improves their record to 1-2 for the season by picking up a 71-52 win over Southend Scorpions men’s team last night.
Ben Warden and Jack McMahon helped get County Uppers offence jump started in the first half. CU came out sluggish to start the game, as they did not score their first field goal until the 7:00 mark of the first quarter. Warden and McMahon both came into the game with CU down 6-3, after Ali McCann knocked down a two-pointer to make it 6-5, Warden and McMahon tit back to back two-pointers which gave CU a 9-6 lead.
Austin Wright and Michael Warner also provided CU with a spark off the bench. Along with the 5 points from Warner and 8 points from McMahon, the four CU players were responsible for 19 of CU’s 35 first half points.
County Upper’s bench continued to be productive in the second half as they scored 17 of County Upper’s 36 points.
CU’s defence had its best 10 minutes of basketball played so far this season. In the forth quarter they limited Southend Scorpions to only 6 points while scoring 19.
County Upper Will be back in action next Tuesday, October 7th when the team travels to Brightlingsea, Essex to face the Brightlingsea Sledghammers Men’s 1st team at 8:00pm.
