Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk—— a depleted County Upper (14-4) became the East of England Champions and booked their place in the last 16 in the Country with a convincing 80-45 win over Bedford College.
CU built up a 26-10 first quarter lead with a 13-2 run to start the quarter, and a 10-2 run to finish the quarter. The second quarter started with both teams trading baskets until the 2:23 minute mark when Bedford College went on 12-4 run cutting County’s lead to just 9 points 33-24. CU responded with a 6-2 run of their own increasing their lead to 13 points going into the locker room.
The second half started with both teams trading baskets, but at the 5:45 minute mark County Upper went on a 10-4 run to increase their lead to 19 points 56-37. The fourth quarter was one sided as County Upper blew open the game with 10-4 run to start the quarter and led by 25 points 66-41. County Upper quickly ended any thoughts of a late comeback as they went on a 13-4 run to finish the quarter extending their lead to 35 points.
County Upper resumes action on Wednesday, Feb. 11, when it plays at Bristol Academy in the Last 16 of the Academies and 6th Form Competition.
