Southend, Essex. — Solid guard play helped County Upper Basketball Academy (13 – 3) defeat South East Essex College for the second time in two weeks. 

With the win County Upper improved its record to 13 wins and 3 losses, and earned themselves a place in the Academies and 6th Form Colleges Eastern region final.

 

The first half saw both teams trading baskets until the 6 minute mark where County Upper closed the half on a 7 – 0 run to take a 32 – 22 advantage into the locker room.

 

The second half started with both teams again trading blows, until midway through the third quarter when SEEC went on a 11 – 0 run to take a 36 – 40 point lead, County Upper immediately responded with a 13 – 0 run of their own to close out the quarter leading 49 – 40.

 

The fourth quarter started with both teams again trading baskets until the 5 minute mark when SEEC went on a 11 – 3 run to take a 57 – 60 point lead, County Upper did not sit back and let SEEC run away with the game, but responded with a 6 – 0 run of their own to seal a 63 – 60 win.  

 

County Upper will be back on the road Friday, Jan. 9th at 3:00pm when the team travel to play the University of Essex.
