Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk— 5 County Upper players scored in double figures as CU rolled to a 88 – 65 win over Ipswich Basketball Academy Thursday night in Bury St Edmunds. The win moves County Upper to 4 wins and 10 losses and 1- 0 in their National Schools competition pool and drops Ipswich Basketball Academy to 4 wins to 1 loss and their first loss in the National Schools Competition.

County Upper jumped out to a 7 point lead 8 – 1 with 7 minutes to go in the first quarter. CU then put together some great defensive and offensive possessions to open up a 27 – 7 lead with about 2 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Ipswich put together a 4 – 2 run with one minute left on the clock to cut CU’s lead to 18 points 29 – 11, but County Upper closed out the quarter with a 5-0 run of their own to finish up 23 points 34 – 11. To start the second quarter Ipswich went on a 9 – 3 spurt to cut CU’s lead to 17 points 37 – 20. However, County Upper turned up the pressure on defence and offence and closed out the half with a 13 – 5 run of their own restoring a 25 point lead 50 – 25.

Early in the second half foul trouble hit County Upper, which Ipswich took advantage of, cutting the gap to 13 points 57 – 43, but this was the closest Ipswich would get for the remainder of the game. From there CU finished the third quarter on a 12 – 6 run to push the lead back to 20 points 69 – 49. The fourth quarter saw CU have a 7 – 4 spurt to open up a 23 point game 76 – 53, and for the remainder of the quarter both teams traded baskets.

County Upper resumed action on Tuesday the 15th of December at home against Downham Market.Game time 4:15pm.
