Silverdale, Sheffield— County Upper put together a solid offensive and defensive performance to overwhelm a strong Silverdale team 74 – 50. The win improves CU’s record to 12 wins and 10 losses for the season, and puts County Upper into the Last 8 in the Country. This win makes County Upper School the first Suffolk school to get an U19’s boys basketball team this far in the National Tournament.

County Upper started the game cold which let Silverdale jump to a 6 – 2 lead, however CU responded with an 8 – 3 run of their own to take a 10 – 9 lead. Silverdale then pulled out a 6 – 3 run to finished the quarter retaking the lead 15 – 13.

Both teams started the quarter trading baskets until the 8 minute mark where County Upper turned up the offensive and defensive tempo sparking a 15 – 2 run to open a 10 point lead 32 – 22. Both teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter with County Upper taking a 10 point lead into halftime 36 – 26.

County Upper blew the game open in the beginning of the second half by playing tough defence and great offence to open a 30 point lead 61 – 31 off the back of a 25 – 5 run. Silverdale responded with a 5 – 0 run to close the gap to 25 points 61 – 36 by the end of the 3rd quarter.

The forth quarter saw both teams trading baskets. The game finished with CU winning by 24 points 74 – 50.

County Upper will next be in action in the last 8 of the National Tournament. Time and Date TBA.
