Photo0012Marshalltown, Iowa - Senior forward/guard Grant Bangs posted 7 points as County Upper Basketball Academy lost 89 – 35 at Marshalltown as part of the Comfort Inn Classic tournament. The contest was the first game for County Upper in America .

Athough County Upper battled hard during their first game in America , cold shooting from the floor and turnovers hurt them. Marshalltown shot 39 -for- 89 for the contest – 45 percent, while County Upper came in at 30 percent (15-for-50) from the field. The Tigers defence forced County Upper into 40 turnovers to 16 for Marshalltown .

County Upper battled hard in the opening stages keeping Marshalltown to within 6 points (15 – 9) at the 15:06 minute mark which forced Marshalltown to take a timeout. For the next 9 minutes County Upper battled hard to keep Marshalltown to within 9 points 33 – 24, before Marshalltown increased the intensity going on a 15 – 0 run to finish the half up by 24 points 48 – 24.

CU had no answer to the intense defensive pressure put on by Marshalltown in the second half, forcing CU into 16 turnovers and holding them to just 2 points in the first 11:21 minutes of the second half. Marshalltown started the second half on a 26 – 2 spurt to blow the game open at 74 – 26 with 8 minutes to play in the second half. County Upper added 9 more point in the last 8 minutes, but the damage was done and the Tigers cruised to a 89 – 35 victory.

County Upper continue play at the Comfort Inn Classic tournament with a 3 p.m. contest against DMACC (Currently ranked #1 in the Country) the next day on the MCC campus.
