Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk—– County Upper School (4 – 2) won in convincing fashion last night. The defence lead the way as CU defeated Colne Academy (Essex) 79 – 27 in their first home game of the season.

CU’s defence made life miserable for Colne all night, as their aggressive defence forced Colne to take multiple tough shots.

CU got off to a fast start thanks not only to some strong defence but also good offensive play by Grant Bangs, James Dawson, Ben Warden, and Mike Warner. CU jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Bangs, Dawson, Warden and Warner combined to score all 14 of CU’s points.

Colne did not score its first points of the game until the 5:25 mark of the first quarter, when Armin knocked down a pair of free throws. It wasn’t until the 8:00 mark in the first quarter that Colne made its first field goal, when Jordan Ellis made a three-pointer.

CU held Colne to just 12 first half points, the lowest amount they have allowed in any half this season.

During the second half CU’s defence kept up the pressure allowing Colne only 15 points.

CU finished the game with four players hitting double-digits. Ben Warden led all scorers with 15 points, Mike Warner and James Dawson both scored 12 points and Billy Beddow was the forth CU player, as he posted 11 on the night.

County Upper School will be back in action on Wednesday, November 12 when the team travels to Barking Abbey Basketball Academy. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30p.m.
