12/01/10
Kings Lynn , Norfolk — County Upper (6 wins and 10 losses) improve to 3 – 0 in the English Schools Competition pool stage. In a game which saw the 4 regular starters sitting on the bench, or ill, CU’s younger players stepped up to play an outstanding game.
There were six County Upper Players who scored in double figures as a balanced CU offence overwhelmed The King Edward VII 126 – 22.
County Upper controlled the game from the opening tip; playing some good offence and defence they opened up a 15 – 0 lead before King Edward got on the score sheet. That lead grew to 25 – 5 by the end of the first quarter. CU killed any hope of a King Edward comeback by going on a 20 – 4 spurt to start the quarter at 45 – 9. CU’s dominance continued throughout the second quarter as King Edward had no answer to County Upper’s offence letting CU storm into halftime with a 60 – 13 lead.
County Upper started the second half with the same intense pressure they had in the first half and opened the 3rd quarter with a 15 – 2 spurt, and closed the 3rd quarter with an 11 – 2 run to build a 86 – 17 lead going into the 4th quarter. The 4th quarter saw King Edward buckle under the pressure as CU ran away with a dominant 40 – 5 display.
County Upper will be back in action on the 13th of January when they play East Norfolk College in Bury St Edmunds. Game time is at 4:15pm
