Lakenheath, Suffolk—– County Upper School basketball academy (11 – 3) won the Lakenheath Jamboree by going undefeated (7-0) throughout both days. The American high school teams competing in this Jamboree were TASIS (London), Lakenheath (Suffolk), Alconbury (Cambridgeshire), ROTA (Spain), Lakenheath D-Squad (Suffolk).
Game 1 Vs Alconbury:
Led by 15 points from George Crudgington, and 10 points from Ben Warden County Upper ran past Alconbury 52 – 5.
County Upper built up a 21 – 3 first half lead with a 17 – 2 run midway through the first half. County upper’s defence was so tough in the second half Alconbury were held scoreless until the final second of the game.
Game 2 Vs Lakenheath D-Squad:
In the first half County Upper had an answer for all of Lakenheath’s scores, as both teams traded baskets throughout most of the first half. County went on a 5 – 0 run at the 8:20 mark, but Lakenheath quickly answered with a 5 – 0 run of their own ending the first half tied at 17 – 17.
It was in the second half that County Upper turned up the tempo on offensive and defensive. With this added intensity County Upper School were able to cruised to a 45 – 27 victory.
Game 3 Vs Lakenheath Varsity:
County Upper used a great second half performance to close out a strong Lakenheath side 36 – 24.
During the first half both teams traded baskets, and ended with CU leading 15 – 12.
In the second half CU got off to a quick start extending their lead to 12 points. Although Lakenheath had a 6-0 run of their own midway through the second half they were never able to challenge CU for the lead. The second half finished 21 – 12.
Game 4 Vs ROTA :
Despite having to overcome a cold first half shooting performance County Upper basketball Academy rallied for a 56 – 21 win over ROTA.
The first half had both teams trading baskets until County Upper went on a 5 – 0 run to close out the first half 19-12 ahead.
The second half saw County Upper improvement at both ends as they out scored ROTA 37 – 9.
Game 5 Vs TASIS
County Upper claim the No.1 seed for tomorrows knockout tournament with a 50 – 25 victory over TASIS.
During the first half both teams traded baskets until the 10:00 minute mark when CU went on a 4 – 0 run to close the first half 21 – 15.
In the second half, after TASIS made a basket to start the half, County Upper quickly ended any thoughts of a comeback by going on a 11 – 0 run and pushing the lead to 15 points. TASIS would never get the deficit under 15 for the rest of the game. The second half finished 29 – 10 to CU.
Game 6 Vs TASIS (Semi-Finals)
Thanks to a 17 – 4 run in the second half, Country Upper defeated TASIS 46 – 23, and earned a place in the final.
In the second battle between the two teams the game started off as a back and forth duel for the entire first half, finishing 18 – 14 to County Upper. Things all changed in the second half when CU blew open the game with a 17 – 4 run to lead by 17 points. The second half finished 28 – 9 to County Upper.
Game 7 Vs Lakenheath Varsity (Final)
In the toughest game of the Jamboree County Upper manage to hold on for great victory over Lakenheath Varsity 37 -34.
The game started out much like the semi-final game as a back and forth duel. County Upper had a 7 – 0 run midway through the first half, but Lakenheath replied with a 9 – 0 run of their own, taking the lead 10 – 8. County Upper fought back to go into half time up 14 – 12.
The second half was a repeat of the first half, until the 4:30 minute mark when County Upper went on a 12 – 0 run to lead 32 – 20. Lakenheath quickly replied with a 5 – 0 run of their own. The final three minutes saw Lakenheath battle back to come with in three points, missing a three on the buzzer.
County Upper School will now return home for their first home game of the Academies and Sixth Form Colleges compertition. County Upper will host SEEC on Thursday, December 4 at 4:15pm
