Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. —– Despite being down for the entire first half, County Upper basketball Academy (12 – 3) rallied to pick up an 83 – 80 win at home to SEEC. Alistair McCann scored 14 second half points as County Upper out scored SEEC 48 – 44 in the second half.   

SEEC started the game on an 8 – 0 run, taking County Upper by surprise. However CU would not sit back and watch SEEC run away with the game. County Upper slowly fought their way back into the game during the first quarter; SEEC still had a 17 – 14 point advantage leading into the second quarter.

 

The second quarter saw SEEC put together an 8 – 3 run taking their lead to 17 – 25, before County Upper responded with an 18 – 7 run of their own taking the lead 35 – 32. However SEEC came back in the dying seconds to hold a one point advantage going into half time 35 – 36.

 

The third quarter saw both teams trading baskets for the first five minutes before County Upper went on a 7 – 0 run taking their lead to 49 – 43, SEEC then responded with a 6 – 0 run of their own at the end of the quarter to cut CU’s lead to only two points, 53 – 51.

 

In the forth quarter County Upper built up a 12 point lead 81 – 69, but due to some offensive errors in the last minute SEEC were able to claw their way back to with in three points with 10 seconds remaining 81 – 78. However County Upper’s defence held strong in the dying seconds to pull off an 83 – 80 victory.

 

County Upper School will be back on the road on Tuesday, Dec. 9 when the team travel to play the second round against SEEC at 2:30pm.
