Fort Dodge, Iowa– County Upper played in their third game in three days against an Iowa Central team freshly back from their Thanksgiving break. Although CU played hard they took too long to get going and fell 77 – 32.
Although County Upper battled hard in the first half, cold shooting and turnovers hurt them. The game was all but over in the first 10 minutes as Iowa Central held nothing back in their dismantlment of CU by taking a 22 point lead 27 – 5. County Upper responded in the last 10 minutes and began to trade baskets scoring 13 to Iowa Cenrtal’s 19 finishing the half down 28 points 46 – 18.
The second half started with CU ’s defence staying solid but cold offensive shooting hindered a good performance as County Upper only scored 6 points to Iowa Central’s 16 points, increasing Iowa Central’s lead to 38 points 62 – 24. County Upper ’s defence held strong for the remainder of the game holding Iowa Central to only 15 points in the last 10 minutes, but CU could only put 8 points on the board finishing the game down 45 points 77 – 32.
“Iowa Central played some very pretty basketball today, they are a very well coached team! They moved the ball so well, and worked well as a complete team. Although are players are tired I hope they take note of how beautiful the game of basketball looks when no one demands the credit. I also hope they can finally see how hard it is to play against a united team who know the game of basketball,” said coach Johnson
County Upper Basketball Academy took the next day off as they were visiting the DMACC campus to experience what it is like to be in an American College . CU resumed play on the 1st of December at 5pm when they travelled south to Des Moines to play Grandview JV.
