Boone, Iowa– County Upper spent the 30th of November visiting the DMACC gym and campus. While on campus Academy players had a tour of campus, sat in a class, compiled 2 and a half hours of study hall and had a practice.

The classes in US colleges start at 8am. CU were invited to attend a 9am Child Psychology class, after which they went on a campus tour. This took them until 12:00pm and lunch. After lunch the Academy players had study hall for two and a half hours. At 4pm CU got changed for practice, but due to them being so tired they only had a walk through and got lots of shots up.

After practice Coach Salmon sat the team down to speak to them about college basketball and how to be successful as a student-athlete. Coach Salmon was until this season the Head coach of the DMACC men’s programme. It was Coach Salmon who turned this programme into a national powerhouse by compiling a nine year overall record of 235 wins and 60 losses; this included two conference titles and two trips to the NJCAA National Tournament. He coached seven All-Americans and had numerous players go on to play at four year colleges and universities. As an athlete coach Salmon played college basketball at the University of Missouri under the legendary basketball coach Norm Stewart who on Nov. 18, 2007 was inducted in the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. During Coach Salmon’s coaching tenure he also spent a number of years at coaching at the NCAA Div 1 level and spent time as a coaching advisor with the Manchester Giants (who used to be in the BBL). “I hope all the players listened hard to what Coach Salmon had to say about the reality of college basketball and being a student-athlete in the US college system, as he has been around college basketball for many years as a player and coach; he really knows his stuff”.

CU were back in action the next day when they took on the Grandview Vikings JV team at 2pm.
