Hastings, Neb.– Pleskac and Bacon had 13 points each to lead Hastings to a 80 – 43 win over County Upper in CU’s last game of their American tour. County Upper (3 wins – 10 losses) who finished their USA trip without a win were led by James Dawson ( Chelmsford , Essex ) with 18 points.
Even though Hastings was fielding 5 varsity players on their JV team CU hung tough early on, taking the lead 9 – 5 at the 12:25 minute mark, but an exhausted County Upper ran out of gas for the remainder of the first half, as they were on the wrong end of a 27 – 9 run which took the Broncs to a 15 point halftime lead 33 – 18.
County Upper continued to battle in the second half by hitting a three pointer at the 17:29 minute mark to pull CU to 34 – 21, but that was as close as County Upper could get. The Broncos capitalised on 15 turnovers by CU in the second half to lead by as many as 40 in the closing minutes. Dawson had 9 in the second half and Plaice posted 6, but Hastings hit a hot streak by conecting on 66.7 percent (6-of-9) from behind the arc in the second frame.
County Upper returned to England on the 3rd of December and continued their season on the 10th of December, as CU hosts Ipswich Basketball Academy at 4:30pm in their first East of England pool game of the National Schools Compertition.
