Cambridge, Cambridgshire—— playing in their first game back after Christmas Break with a depleted team, County Upper School fell to Cambridge University 64-69. The game snaps CUs 9 game winning streak.
County Upper (13-4) put together an amazing comeback in the forth quarter to nearly win the game.
After both teams traded blows for the first few minutes of the game, it was Cambridge University who struck first with a 9-2 run to take a 14-7 lead at the end of the quarter. County Upper, however would go on a 8-4 run of its own to start the second quarter, cutting Cambridge’s lead to just 2 points 16-18 with 7:21 remaining in the quarter. Cambridge quickly responded with a 14-7 run to finish the quarter with a 32-23 lead.
In the second half, the two teams would again trade baskets to start the first 3 minutes. However with County Upper’s shooting going cold Cambridge were able to go on a 20-5 run opening up a 21 point lead, their biggest lead of the game 35-56. With 2:34 left on the clock CU were able to find their shooting form and finish the quarter with a 6-0 run cutting Cambridge’s lead to 15 points 41-56. The final quarter saw Cambridge start with an 8-3 run extending their lead back to 20 points. With 7 minutes left in the game County Upper combined great offensive possessions with amazing defensive displays to go on a 20-5 run of there own, and just falling short of the win 64-69.
County Upper will look to get back into the win column on Wednesday 21st January at 4:15pm when they take on Bedford College in the East of England Academies and 6th Form final.
